How to choose
Read coverage as the maker's figure
Coverage figures come from the makers, not from one shared measurement. The Levoit is rated for up to 2,933 sq ft, the COWAY for up to 1,800 sq ft, and the DBFIT refreshes a room of 533 sq ft in 10 minutes. Compare the maker figure with your room's floor area, and remember that CADR is not square feet: CADR measures airflow in cubic feet per minute, so a higher CADR means more air moved, not a bigger room rating.
CADR, filters, and fan speeds
CADR tells you how much air a purifier moves: the Levoit lists 391 CFM and the COWAY lists 242 CFM. Filter stages describe what the unit passes air through: the Levoit and COWAY each use a 3-stage system, while the DBFIT uses 2 H13 HEPA filters with a washable pre-filter. Fan speeds set how hard the unit runs: the DBFIT offers 6 speeds, from Sleep to Turbo, and the COWAY drops to 19 dB in sleep mode while the DBFIT drops to 15 dB.
Upkeep and placement
Start with the pre-filter: the COWAY pre-filter slides out for washing without opening the front cover, and the DBFIT pre-filter can be vacuumed or washed. Watch the filter life indicators: the COWAY display shows remaining life from 100% down to 0%, and the DBFIT has a filter change reminder. Place the unit where air can reach both sides on the DBFIT, and keep the cord out of walkways.
