How to choose
Match fan size to the room
The picks here come in 42-inch and 52-inch spans: the addlon and Sofucor are 42 inches, while the Ohniyou and Glowivia are 52 inches. The Ohniyou suits rooms around 12 x 14 ft, and the Glowivia covers areas up to 225 sq ft. Measure the room first, then match the span to it, since a fan sized for the room moves air across the whole space.
App control, remote and voice
App control means changing speed, light and direction from a phone instead of walking to a switch. All four picks offer app control plus a remote. The Sofucor also answers Alexa and Google voice commands. Check that the app covers the settings you use daily, such as timers, dimming and reverse airflow, before buying.
Reversible airflow and timers
Reversible airflow lets a fan push air down in summer and pull it up in winter to recirculate warm air near the ceiling. All four picks reverse airflow. Timers shut the fan off after a set time: the addlon runs 1, 2, 4 and 8H by app, the Ohniyou 2, 4 and 8H, and the Sofucor 1, 4 and 8 hours.
