How to choose
Match nominal size to actual size
In this group the Filtrete actual size is 19.56 by 24.13 by 4.75 inches, the BestAir actual size is 19.75 by 24.25 by 4.88 inches, and the Lennox actual size is 19.75 by 24.75 by 4.38 inches. Measure your current filter or its cabinet, then compare that measurement with the actual size given for the pick you choose.
Read MERV and MPR together
MERV is a scale for how well a filter captures particles, and MPR is a separate scale used for Filtrete filters. In this group the Trion carries MERV 8, the BestAir, Lennox and GeneralAire carry MERV 11, and the Filtrete carries MERV 12 at MPR 1550. Compare the MERV figure first, then use the MPR figure only for picks that give one, and never mix the two scales as if they were the same number.
Change filters on a set interval
A filter collects particles over time, so a set change interval keeps capture steady. The Filtrete filter lasts 12 months, the Lennox filter can last up to 1 year with replacement every 6-12 months, and the Filtrete Smart App can set 90-, 180- or 365-day reminders. Set a reminder for the interval given for your pick, and check the filter size before you order a replacement.
