Appliances are bought on a handful of numbers: BTUs, CADR, suction, capacity, noise. This page sets out how HouseCostWise treats those numbers and the people reading about them.
The listing is the source
Every figure on a guide comes from the maker's listing or published specs, and it is shown the way the maker states it. If a space heater's listing gives no coverage area, or a purifier's gives no CADR, the guide says the figure is not stated. We do not estimate, convert or round a spec in a product's favor.
Rankings are not for sale
We earn a commission from some purchases made through our links. No brand pays to be included, ranked higher or described more kindly, and we do not run sponsored posts or paid links. Commission rates never break a tie between two products.
Software and AI do the legwork, rules do the deciding
Our software collects listing data and ranks products by the same rule each time. AI tools draft the short notes on who each pick suits. A note that mentions a number must match the listing text it came from, or it is removed before the guide is built.
Promises we do not make
We make no health claims about purifiers, humidifiers or filters, no promises about energy bills, and no safety guarantees. A tip-over switch, a certification mark or a filter rating is reported only as the listing gives it. We do not describe how to install appliances into gas lines, ducts or household wiring; that is work for a licensed professional.
Prices and dates
Prices change daily, so we leave them out. Each guide shows when it was last updated, and guides are rebuilt when the products in them change.
Mistakes
If something is wrong, email [email protected] with the page and the claim. We fix it in the next build and do not hide the error. The ranking method is on how we pick, and how the site earns money is on our affiliate disclosure.
