How to choose
Match MERV rating to your needs
MERV ratings run from 8 on the Filter King and Simply, 11 on the Filtrete and Amazon Basics, and 13 on the Aerostar. A higher MERV captures smaller particles, while a lower MERV puts less strain on airflow. The Aerostar pairs MERV 13 with synthetic electrostatic media for low airflow resistance. Pick a rating that fits your system and your particle concerns.
Check pack size and change interval
Pack sizes run from 2 for the Filtrete, 6 for the Aerostar and Amazon Basics, and 12 for the Filter King and Simply. Change intervals run from 30 to 90 days for the Filter King, 60 to 90 days for the Aerostar and Amazon Basics, and 90 days for the Filtrete. A larger pack covers more changes, so match the pack to your change schedule.
Check actual size before ordering
Nominal size is 20 by 30 by 1 inches for all five, but actual sizes run slightly smaller. The Filtrete measures 19.68 by 29.68 by 0.81 inches, the Filter King 19.5 by 29.5 by 0.75 inches, and the Amazon Basics 19.75 by 29.75 by 0.75 inches. Measure your filter slot or return grille first, then pick the filter that fits it.
