How to choose
Match coverage to floor area
Start with the coverage figure each maker gives for the pack, not for a single unit. The Orbi 870 is rated for up to 9,000 sq ft by the maker, the Deco 7 for up to 6,600 sq ft, the eero 7 for up to 6,000 sq ft, and the ASUS GT6 for up to 5,800 sq ft. Compare that figure with the floor area across both stories, and add a satellite where the figure falls short.
Count units and ports
Packs here hold 3 units or 2 units. The Deco 7 and the Orbi 870 come as 3-packs, and the ASUS GT6 comes as a 2-pack. Wired backhaul through 2.5G ports on the Deco 7 keeps traffic off Wi-Fi, and the Orbi 870 adds a 10 Gig internet port for wired gear.
Place units across both floors
Put the router near the modem, then place satellites where Wi-Fi drops between floors. The Deco mesh uses a single network name, so devices move between units without a new network. The Orbi 870 adds satellites for larger homes, and the Deco 7 expands by adding another Deco router.
