How to choose
Motor size and flow
Horsepower states motor size, and GPH states maximum flow. The Hayward lists 1.85 HP, and the other three picks list 1.5 HP. The CHOOSMO lists up to 5070 GPH, and the SwimPulse lists up to 7,260 GPH. Match both figures to the pool plumbing and filter the pump will serve.
Variable speed controls
Variable speed means the motor can run at more than one speed, so filtration can run low and cleaning can run high. The Hayward uses a programmable digital interface with a 24-hour programmable clock. The BLACK+DECKER uses a touchpad for speeds with WiFi control. The CHOOSMO uses app and panel control with preset speeds and Quick Clean mode. The SwimPulse uses stepless control from 150 to 3,450 RPM with four preset speed modes.
Baskets, priming and upkeep
Self-priming means the pump can prime itself once filled, and strainer baskets catch leaves before the impeller. The Hayward has a no-rib, extra-large basket. The CHOOSMO has an extra-large strainer basket with a clear lid, and the basket is filled with water before startup. The SwimPulse has a large filter basket. Check the basket when flow drops.
